A San Francisco Med-Spa on Trendy Union Street
Fred was contracted by building contractor client, Concore Development Group, to shoot photos of their just-completed retail build-out on trendy Union Street in San Francisco. The tenant, Drip Doctors, a med-spa with its flagship locations in Los Angeles, was literally just moving-in to their first Northern California location on the day of the shoot. So, the logistics of getting some of the best shots without various opened boxes and packing materials, and of course, personnel showing in each frame, added to the thrill of the day!
The layout of the retail space was deep and narrow, with relatively tall windows only at the front entrance. So, one of the key factors when planning the shoot was determining the best time of day to get natural lighting that could be complemented with strobe flash fill light to get an inviting look that would best showcase Fred's client's craftsmanship.
The frontage of the space faced due north, so shooting in the morning or even mid-day would not accomplish the desired lighting Fred was looking for. But once he plotted the position of the late afternoon sun and sunset in the west, he was able to capture the maximum amount of natural light from outside that he was looking for, as well as get the warm afternoon sunlight cast on the exterior frontage and signage of the med-spa without having to schedule a separate shoot.
